26/05/17 to 28/05/17 - Well I was lucky enough to get invited to a 3 day event near Droitwich photographing Kestrel, Kingfisher, Little Owl, Reed bed birds with the opportunity of Foxes with cubs, Buzzards and Herons. Well the latter 3 were not playing ball, however it was a brilliant 3 days. The workshop was led by Greg Coyne and was attended by 9 other photographers of varying photographic experience, we were split into 3 groups and set up in 3 different locations, myself Paul and Terry were sent of to the Reed bed hide for our first session. Well it turned out to be a good first session with us photographing not only Reed bed bird but we also had 2 visits from a male Kingfisher. Overall the first day was a great success with myself getting some superb Kingfisher, Reed Warbler and in the afternoon Kestrel images.
Accommodation was courtesy of the Holiday Inn Droitwich which I have to say was very comfortable and Greg had secured very good rates after the original hotel had let him down. The evening meals were courtesy of the Harvester next door.
Day 2 - well the weather had turned it was windy and overcast with the occasional rain. This meant the Reed bed hide was out of action, so my morning session was in the Kestrel hide with the opportunity to also photograph Little Owls..... Well the rest in the hide got the Little Owl on it's only visit that dat but me, talk about timing, I had to relieve myself and in that 10 minutes you guessed it the Little Owl arrived.... damn. The rest of the guys would not let me forget it (all in good fun). The afternoon was spent at the Kingfisher Hide but was not that eventful. The Kingfisher did turn up but did not dive or hang around. We did note his beak was muddy so he was busy building a new nest burrow or burrows to woo a female. Obviously other things on his mind than fish. So overall day two was about the Kestrels for me as I had missed the Little Owl.
Day 3 - Normal service resumed with no wind and clear skies. A great 3rd day with more Kingfishers, Kestrels, Reed bed birds and yes finally for me Little Owl images. I left site at around 16:30 with a 2.5 hr journey ahead of me.
So overall it is a thumbs up for a great 3 days and a big thank you to Greg Coyne.
